Welcome Back!

BSR announces Barrymore show on April 20th, 2012

Baghdad SCUBA Review will be performing as part of a benefit for the late Ben Masel who passed away last April 2011.  Other confirmed bands at this time include The Grasshoppers and Steez.  More details coming soon!

Happy summer - BSR OFF HIATUS for Atwood Summerfest 7.30, Majestic 8.4

It has been a great summer thus far in BSR land.  The band has been enjoying hiatus, but keeping busy.  Chad finished up with school (again), and he and Rob joined a new Grateful Dead tribute project called The New Speedway Players.  Rob has also been sitting in with the Madison rock band Soul Shaker on percussion, in addition to running sound at summer festivals.  Erik did a Black Sabbath tribute back in April, has been jamming with old band Groovulous Glove, and recently acquired a standup bass.   Between teaching his kids to sing and play guitar, John has stayed very busy running his new business (Property Revival, LLC). Jason has been learning to use a new board for his basement recording studio and soon to be performing with the Yokanizu Project.  And Justin has been hired by Dan Anderson as a session drummer for Boxcar Music Studios.

Not to mention, the official BSR side project, Electric Spanking (Justin, Jason, Rob and Chad), has taken a new direction by adding new members (bass and funky horns!)

But what would a summer be without Baghdad SCUBA Review LIVE?
Certainly not as good as one WITH a BSR show or two.  So mark your calendars and come see the band at their only two live performances for the summer 2011:

Saturday, 7.30.2011, time TBA (btw 2-4p?)
Atwood Summerfest
2000-2100 blocks of Atwood Ave
Madison, WI

Thursday, 8.4.2011, 9p
Summer Jam Concert Series
Majestic Theatre
115 King St.
Madison, WI

Labor Protests and Jackie Greene Force BSR Off Hiatus

The members of Baghdad Scuba Review called an emergency jam session last Saturday to discuss the labor protests and play some music.  A few of the band members had been involved in multi-day protests at the Madison State Capitol.  Spirits were high and a brand new protest-related song was created that night.

Around the same time the protests began last week, BSR was invited to open for nationally touring artist Jackie Greene in Madison early next month.

Due to these events, BSR is putting the hiatus on hold to perform one special show:

Friday, March 11th, 9p

Jackie Greene

Live and In Concert at:

The Majestic Theatre

Final Show BIG success

Thanks to everyone that came to the Harmony Bar Friday 12/10 for BSR's final show before hiatus!  Although the weather held out (snow did not come until saturday) we were still up against many other great bands that same nite playing at many of the great Madison venues.  Nonetheless, the attendence at the Harmony was stellar and it could not have been a better show to end 2010 on.  The band was in high spirits and the crowd connected and grooved on just about every song.    Additional thanks goes to Keith, Alison, and the rest of the staff at the Harmony.  I am sure we will be back there again at some point.

Happy Holidays.  We hope to see you at some point in 2011!

Hint, hint...  CD's make a great holiday gift.  You can pick up copies of BSR's CDs at Sugar Shack in Madison, order online from CDBaby, download from iTunes, or email the band about CDs, t-shirts and other merchandise.

4th Annual Night Of the Dead - best one yet!

Thanks to everyone that attended the 4th Annual Night of the Dead Halloween concert Saturday Oct 30th.  The tribute sets from all 4 bands were fantastic.  The attendence was stellar!  We had close to 100 more people over last year.  We still have a few limited edition "Josh Meier designed" t-shirts and posters available.  Please contact the band if you are interested.

We have live video and music recording from the entire show.  We will be making some of this available very soon.

Baghdad SCUBA Review announces a hiatus from live shows starting in 2011

After a lot of consideration, we've decided to take some time off from our live show performances starting in 2011. We want everyone to know that the general vibe of the band is good, and our decision was made to ensure we can continue as a band, in the future. Think back in your life 6 years ago, if you're like us, things are probably a lot different now than back then. During those 6 years, we've been able to adjust the band when things have changed in the past and this is just another adjustment, albeit a large one.

The question we've been getting the most is "How long?". Unfortunately, we don't have an answer to that yet, but without promising anything, you'll likely see some select shows in late 2011. During our time off, we are putting into motion an idea we had, a way of recording we haven't tried before. In the past, most of our studio material has been well structured, rehearsed, mostly finalized, and often in heavy live rotation before we go in to record it. Well during our time off, we aren't planning on rehearsing often, which won't allow us to do an album like in the past. So we are putting together a recording network that will allow us to bounce ideas off of each other and add parts to new songs that are coming alive as a recording, mostly from individual contributions from our home studios. We feel this will turn our thinking about how we write music upside down, and ultimately, grow us as a band and as songwriters.

We've already begun to see how a different environment can change our song writing with the BSR side project, Electric Spanking. Even with most of the members of BSR, the original material that's coming out of ES is very different than anything we've done in BSR. This change of mind set allows us to explore a different genre of music, helping our music muscles grow. During the hiatus, ES will continue to play live shows with our growing catalog of new ES originals.

We understand that this decision is disappointing to some of our best fans, but we hope you understand that we truly are doing the things necessary to ensure we continue this band in the future, and hopefully come back stronger and fresher than ever. We'd like to thank everyone for your continued support. Without you, none of the things we've done over the past 6 years would have been possible, and we're hoping for that same support when we hit the live scene again in the future.
